Galaxy Pack Pallet Cover Flying High

In a significant effort to reduce its environmental footprint, the prestigious airline LATAM has begun using Galaxy Pack’s reusable Pallet Covers in its cargo operations. This initiative is part of its ambitious plan to achieve zero plastic waste in landfills by 2027. The airline has highlighted that with the implementation of these Pallet Covers, it expects to reduce its plastic waste by 80 tons per year.

Commitment to sustainability

The adoption of Galaxy Pack Pallet Covers is a sign of LATAM’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact. According to the airline, «at LATAM we are committed to being a zero waste to landfill group by 2027. To this end, we are working to reduce plastics and use reusable materials in our operations.

Benefits of Reusable Pallet Covers

  • Plastic Waste Reduction: LATAM estimates that it will be able to reduce 80 tons of plastic waste annually.
  • Durability and Strength: Galaxy Pack pallet covers are designed to withstand multiple uses without compromising their structural integrity.
  • Reduced Long-Term Costs: Although the initial investment in reusable pallet covers may be higher, long-term costs are reduced due to the reduction in the purchase of disposable materials.

Implementation and Results

LATAM has detailed its implementation process: «In LATAM Cargo Chile’s operations, for example, we implement projects created by our collaborators at different stages of the cargo transportation process that bring us ever closer to this commitment. We began using reusable polyester pallet covers to transport cargo from the holds to the feet of the aircraft. This initiative began in March, in a conversation we had with the national cargo hold manager, where I proposed to look for a new product to replace this plastic. With these blankets, we will be able to replace 100% of the plastic film that covers the cargo in this process and thus reduce 80 tons of plastic per year».

LATAM has also introduced other innovations: «Another innovative idea was to replace the plastic film used to contain the cargo with this recyclable tape. This initiative has enabled us to reduce the use of plastic in this operation by 80%.

Innovation and Social Responsibility

The implementation of Galaxy Pack’s reusable pallet covers underscores LATAM’s commitment to innovation and social responsibility. This move not only benefits the environment, but also positions LATAM as a leader in sustainability within the aviation industry. «We as LATAM are only one link in the chain. So suppliers like TM are important to achieve our short- and long-term goals,» says the airline.
